Repair the roof or replace it? How to decide
Any roofer can sell you a replacement. The useful question is whether a repair will genuinely hold, and for how long. We quote both options where both are viable, so you can see the numbers side by side rather than take one on trust.

Choose Repair when
- The fault is in one clearly identified place
- The rest of the installation is in good order
- You need it watertight or working now and can plan the bigger job later
Choose Full replacement when
- You are fixing the same fault for the third time
- Problems are appearing in several different places
- You are staying in the property long term and want it done once
Get the diagnosis in writing
Ask for photographs of the fault and a written explanation of why replacement is being recommended. A trade that is confident in the diagnosis will have no problem providing both. Our roofers include photos with the quote as standard.
Do the arithmetic over five years
Compare the repair price against the replacement price divided by the years you would expect to get from it. Repeated repairs on a failing installation almost always lose that comparison — but a single repair on a sound one almost always wins it.
